Senior SCADA/MES Engineer

What you’ll do

As a SCADA/MES Engineer at AT-Automation, you’ll work on challenging projects every day. You’ll take on a more independent and coordinating role, learning to translate customer requirements for both SCADA and MES solutions into practical Ignition solutions.

You’ll be responsible for designing, configuring, and optimizing SCADA and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) that take our customers’ production processes to the next level. From the initial concept through to final implementation, you’ll guide each project, ensuring smooth execution and timely completion according to the agreed schedule. You’ll work closely with the Ignition Team Lead and other team members to maintain AT-Automation’s high standards and maximize customer satisfaction. You may also take on a coordinating role, becoming involved in planning, time tracking, and budget management.

You’ll use modern technologies to analyze problems, translate customer needs into technical specifications, and develop solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness for our customers. You’ll stay up to date with the latest technologies. In addition to your technical responsibilities, you’ll keep track of your hours, actively participate in team meetings, and contribute ideas for improvement to achieve optimal results. As an ambassador for AT-Automation, you’ll represent our core values with both customers and colleagues and play an important role in the continuous improvement of our team and services.

What you bring

• Living in the Netherlands: You currently reside in the Netherlands and have full work authorization.
• On-site Presence: You thrive in a collaborative team setting and work on-site at our Weert office on a daily basis (no remote work option).
• You have an MBO or HBO degree in ICT, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Automation.
• You have at least 5 years of experience as a (software) engineer within industrial automation, preferably with SCADA and MES systems.
• You have a VCA Basic Safety certificate or are willing to obtain one.
• You have basic knowledge of or experience with SQL databases and Python.
• You are familiar with the ISA-95 and ISA-88 standards.
• You understand industrial production processes and can quickly identify and resolve technical challenges.
• You are proactive and communicatively skilled: you maintain an overview, think ahead and know when to escalate if a project is under pressure.
• You combine an analytical mindset with a pragmatic approach and have an eye for both technology and customer satisfaction.
• You have a strong sense of responsibility and take ownership of your projects — from design through to delivery.
• You are committed to your personal development and growth.
• You have perseverance, especially during busy periods.
• You are willing to work outside regular working hours occasionally and travel abroad for projects.
• You don’t have a 9-to-5 mentality and are willing to go the extra mile when needed.

Responsibilities

• Stakeholder management: You actively maintain contact with both internal and external stakeholders.
• You understand the customer’s needs and translate them into clear, achievable (software) requirements for SCADA and MES solutions. This may include conducting preliminary research and preparing detailed quotations.
• Developing, configuring, and optimizing SCADA/MES systems.
• Team leadership: You provide direction to a team of junior and medior engineers. You coach them in their technical development and ensure effective collaboration within the project team.
• Actively maintaining time registration and contributing to team meetings.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of team performance and our services.
• Representing AT-Automation’s core values to customers and colleagues.
• Continuously working on personal development and growth within the Ignition department.
• Project monitoring: You actively monitor the scope, planning, and quality of projects. You anticipate risks, identify deviations in a timely manner, and make adjustments where necessary to ensure project objectives are met.
• Providing demonstrations and training to customers and/or programmers.
• Ensuring the safety of yourself and your colleagues in production environments.
